Michel Morin
Biography
Michel Morin was born in 1933 in Quebec. A trained musician for more than half of his life, he eventually turned to painting in order to translate the language and emotion of music into visual form.
For Morin, the canvas began as a blank space that gradually came to life through intuition and gesture. Guided by a deep sensitivity to rhythm and vibration, he approached painting much like a musical composition, allowing color, movement, and silence to interact naturally. Influenced by Jean-Paul Riopelle, he developed a distinctive visual language where expressive bursts of color and dynamic forms echo the energy of music. Just as silence shapes a symphony, the spaces within his canvases act as moments of pause and balance.
Through this intuitive process, Morin created paintings that transform musical sensation into vibrant visual expression.
