Pietro Palamara

Biography

Pietro Palamara is a self-taught Montreal-based painter and sculptor. His work stems from his deep appreciation for craftsmanship.

From a young age, Pietro enjoyed working with his hands. Growing up influenced by a tile setter father and carpenter uncle he now creates emotive gestural sculptures and whimsical solder flower paintings. The time-consuming process of thousands of metal flowers individually painted and placed one by one creates an evocative and immersive effect on his audience.

Pietro revisited art seriously after COVID. Using materials that he sees in his day-to-day as a plumber Pietro reshapes copper piping, copper wires, and solder to express his awkwardness, back issues, and his loving relationship with his daughter.

For Pietro, his sculptures are a means of storytelling and connection, inviting viewers to relate to his pieces in their own way. His art serves as vehicles for personal expression, allowing him to convey his struggles, relationships, and emotions, while also inviting audiences to reflect on their own experiences.

Pietro’s sculptures and paintings explore themes of duality and emotion, his flower paintings exude a sense of joy and movement, while his sculptures delve into deeper narratives, touching on feelings of judgment, pride, and human experience.

In the words of Pietro Palamara himself, "When you understand what’s going on in the sculpture, it becomes part of your story," emphasizing the intimate and transformative nature of his art.
