Robert Rahal

Biography

Robert Rahal was born and raised in a small rural town outside of Montreal. He has been working in the art industry across many platforms throughout his life. His current art has found its culmination in the circle and its multiple iterations. Exploring the shape and its perpetual movement, Rahal’s paintings each have a sphere at the centre, producing provocative reactions in the artist and onlookers alike, as the circle connotes a range of meanings from ideas of the infinity of time to expressions of quotidian and nostalgic cultural objects. Rahal’s paintings articulate the symbiotic relationship between the static canvas juxtaposed by the fluctuation of colour upon it. The full-bodied brushstrokes project his subconscious, delving inward to create a lucid untangling of free movement. Rahal’s process is an organic combination of physicality alongside meditative reflection; a creation that involves extensive research and methodology in tandem with the labour-intensive practice of self-reflection and introspection. Transfixing the gaze, Rahal’s work is distinct for its polychromatic palettes, metallic and textural experimentation, as well as kaleidoscopic optical illusions. Rahal’s artistic endeavour has found steadfast success both in Canada and abroad.
