Chris Brown

Biography

Chris Brown brings the essence of an artist and the discipline of a warrior to his craft.

I spent my early childhood and young adulthood in the beautiful Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia surrounded by rugged coastlines, along which I worked as a deck hand on a 44ft lobster boat in the Bay of Fundy, giving me a unique perspective of the stunning landscape with its lighthouses, historic homes and beautiful shorelines. This was contrasted with a few years in between spent in the untamed back country of northern Manitoba where I became close friends with one of the local First Nations families who allowed me to travel with them on their dog sled teams through the stark but breathtaking winter wilderness. National Geographic was another great source of inspiration for me as it showed me that I could capture the beauty that I was seeing around me and share it with others. Between the dramatic landscapes and the incredible images in the magazines, my passion for photography was born and it has only increased along the journey that life has taken me. In an effort to truly understand the photographic process I studied film photography including dark room development learning the intricacies of how light is interpreted by the camera and can be manipulated to create a variety of effects on the end result. This led me to study photographers such as Ansel Adams, Helmet Newton, Mario Testino, David Bailey, Joel Grimes, and Karl Taylor to name a few who have inspired my work today. I now reside on the west coast of Canada and have spent the last 20 years honing my skills. I have photographed everything from real estate to product to fashion to fine art landscape & seascapes. I enjoy the challenge of capturing a variety of subjects and working with natural light as well as in the studio. Every scenario presents the opportunity to create an image that has never existed before that nobody else can duplicate which I find intoxicating. Over the years I have had my work featured in the following publications; Revolution Motorcycle Magazine, Sotheby’s International Realty Magazine, BC Business Magazine, Homes & Living Magazine, Taste Magazine, Hydrogen Magazine, Professional Sounds Magazine, and Monte Cristo Magazine. I have also done promotional work for a number of local businesses such as C|Prime Restaurant, Beyond Restaurant, Absolute Spa, Lift Restaurant, Session Wire, DXO, Crew Studios, and Denman Fitness. Being a photographer makes the world my office and allows me to express how I interpret it. I hope my work speaks to you in a way that invites your interpretation of my vision.
